Aatu Kaal Soup (Mutton Bone Soup)



My version of Aatu Kaal soup (Mutton Bone Soup)

This is a 100% home made, tasty soup every mutton lover will devour.
Its apparently good for sinus, common cold and mild fever - Yet tasty too.


Serves 4

Ingredients:

Mutton (Mutton bones with some flesh attached to it): 8-10 medium sized pieces, Cleaned.
Red Onion: 1 medium, chopped finely
Tomato: 1, chopped finely
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder - 1 tsp
Chilly powder - 1 tsp
Salt - As required
Slit Grren Chillies - 2 (Center Slit)

To Grind (Dry Grind Coarsely without water)
Black Pepper Corns: 2 tsp
Cumin seeds (Jeerakam): 1/2 tsp
Fennel seeds (Perum Jeerakam): 1 tsp

To Season
Ghee - 1 tsp
Curry Leaves: 5-6 leaves
Coriander Leaf: 1-2 tsp
Garlic & Ginger: 3 cloves garlic + 1x1 inch ginger crushed

Method:

1. In a thick bottom vessel, add Ghee & crushed giner & garlic and saute till raw smell subsides.
2. Add chopped onions & saute for 1 minute. Add tomatoes & saute for 30 secs (Onions or tomatoes shouldnt be cooked fully).
3. Add Mutton, Turmeric, Coriander, Chilly Powder and Curry Leaves, Mix well.
4. Add water and boil at high flame (Roughly 30 mins to cook).
5. When the mutton is half cooked, Add the ingredients (To grind) & mix well.
6. Continue to cook until mutton is fully cooked.
7. Adjust Water levels (&Salt) to desired consistency levels.


Serve piping hot after garnishing with Coriander leaves (Chopped).
